Jax's 1st Birthday

Normally, whenever I make cakes, they are for friends and family.  I had the honor of being referred to one of my hairdresser's friends, and I was in charge of her son's 1st birthday cake.  Jax was having an Elmo party, so I knew I had to make the cake a giant Elmo face.  His mom also wanted a smash cake, which was a first for me.  I figured it would be good practice for Sadie's 1st birthday in August!  Here are the pictures...

This is the main cake.  I used the Wilton Elmo Pan.  It is hard to tell in the picture, but I also made the red frosting to look like fur.

This is the smash cake.  As I am sure you can tell by the eyes, I did free hand this one.  It was my first attempt at an Elmo face, but I think it is adorable!

After I finished making the cakes, I realized there may not be enough cake to go around for the number of people at the party, so I decided to whip up some Elmo cupcakes!
